Lionel train sets swept the world of toys in the early part of the twentieth century with their color, accessories and intrinsic art work. Now, Lionel train sets are considered as collectibles and are rare finds. There are thousands of people world wide who do not mind spending their money in collecting Lionel train sets.
When such large amount of money is invested on Lionel train sets, it becomes necessary to maintain in good order, with a little effort. To achieve this, the Lionel train sets have a lot of expensive items such as locomotives and rolling stock like wagon, carriage cars and so on. These accessories have to be stored when not in use.
As dust and moisture would enter them and corrupt their mechanism, they are better placed in some container or in a dry and warm place like a cupboard. The dirt and dust in the individual components must be cleared using a soft cloth or a sponge. If the dirt is not cleared periodically, accumulation of dirt can cause damage to the paint work and working condition of the Lionel train set.
If batteries are used in Lionel train sets, they must be removed when not in use because the chemicals might be abrasive and be harsh to the sensitive parts of the components of Lionel train sets. Further, it is better to avoid touching the locomotive while it is running as this may damage the motor. If such trivial matters are taken care of, the Lionel trains sets would still be a collection to be gifted to the next generation.
